Matthew Larkin


Matthew was classically trained in clarinet, percussion, and conducting at King College (Bristol, TN) from 2010 - 2014 under Pat Flannagan (conducting), Lonny Finley (ensembles), and Gary Robertz (clarinet) as well as the Greatbatch School of Music Houghton College (Houghton, NY) from 2014 - 2015 under Justin Davis (conducting), Armenio Suzano (music history), and Sara Rupe (clarinet).

In 2015, Matthew moved to Asheville, NC where he became involved in several music ensembles including the Land of the Sky Syphonic Band (clarinet), the Blue Ridge Orchestra (clarinet), Asheville Clarinet Choir (clarinet, conducting),  Chikomo Marimba (marimba, lead), and Rugare Marimba (marimba, founder).

Currently, Matthew's musical endevours include teaching privately, public performance in clarinet (church/ceremonies) and marimba (events/festivals). He also arranges marimba music for the two Zimbabwean marimba bands he plays in.

Teaching philosophy

Matthew encourages slow and deep learning of practical music skills designed to help the student embark on their own independent journey in music.

Over time the student will spend time developing in one or more of the following area of study, depending on their goals.
